Refining your Twitter searches with advanced syntax!

Today we will talk about the Advanced Syntax on SocialBro. You may think that this functionality is for programmers, but you are wrong. The Advanced Syntax can be very useful to search by different criteria!

In the field up the application, you can combine your search in different ways. For example, if you are looking in the whole community to people who are from Boston or London and put in their bio Marketing or Social, for example, you can do this:

location:boston+london bio:marketing+social

So, the basic rules are:
  • All characters without spaces.
  • The sign + means "OR"
  • The sign - means "NOT"
  • Double quotes mean you are searching an exact phrase, like "social media".
  • For searches into the Name, you must write: name:____
  • For searches into the Bio, you must write: bio:_____
  • For searches into the Location, you must write: location:____
If your searches are on the name, bio or location you can also use the filter menu. But there is a feature that is not on this menu that is to search an URL. If you want to find in your community, for example, all people who use their LinkedIn profile on their Twitter bio, you can write: url:linkedin. Or their Facebook profile: url:facebook.

These are only some tips! If we have missed anything or if you want to provide any advice on the advanced syntax, let us know!

How to make your searches more powerful!

Some of the most powerful SocialBro features, that many users forget to use, are the Filters and the Advanced Search. They are located on the left menu of the app interface. With them, you can search by language, location, number of followers and friends, users with URL or not, verified profiles or not, the account age, etc.

For example, if you want to know the "Influential Followers"of an account, is not enough to choose only this option on the main menu (dashboard). If you do this, the followers that appear are the ones that have a considerable number of followers more than friends. And not all of these are “influential"! An account that follows 50 users and has 150 followers will be automatically considered "influential". And we are not looking for this kind of users!

So our advice is: use the Filters to make your searches more powerful. In the case of the "Influential Followers ", you can apply the filter "Followers" to search, for example, for your followers that have more than 500 followers themselves. Or apply the filter “Lists” to search for the followers that are included in, for example, more than 100 lists.

Another situation: you want to know the relevant users that you aren’t following back. To find these, choose "You Are not Following back" and then don’t forget to take advantage of the "Advanced Search". Do you want to know if, for example, you're not following back any interesting profiles from social media or marketing areas? Type the keywords into one of the fields available in the Advanced Search. That will help you to reciprocate your followers that you don't want to miss!

So remember, the first thing to choose is the function on the main menu (dashboard) and THEN use the appropriate Filters. Enjoy!

3 important features of SocialBro you maybe haven’t found out yet

1- Multi account management
A lot of users of our app have asked us about how to add a second (or third...) account to manage in SocialBro. It is very easy and especially useful for companies. You can click on your avatar or username placed in the header and you will see an "Add Account" option.

2- View options
Concerning the last upgrade, one of the main change (as we’ve informed you) is the addition of a new grid-view. With this option, the view of your accounts is more compact and lets you see more profiles at a glance. You can choose one of the three view options (list view, detailed view or grid-view) clicking on the footer area (see image on previous post).

The choice is yours: more data about the profiles or more profiles with less information. If you prefer the grid-view, mouseover each profile to see more information about each member of your community.

3- Relationship history
Another thing we’d like to share with you is about the background of the relationship between you and each profile of your community. If you’ve followed or unfollowed people from SocialBro app, the history (dates) will appear when you click on each profile. If the relationship is older than your initiation in SocialBro, the date that will appear will be the same date as app recognized the user, by synchronization.

Releasing SocialBro 0.1.6 with new grid-view

After receiving a lot of ideas in our feedback page (thank you all!), we are proud to release SocialBro 0.1.6 with some additions and improvements.

The main change is the addition of a new grid-view which is more compact and shows more users at a glance. If you pass the mouse over each profile, you will see more information about the accounts.

Another improvement is that we have removed the scroll bar from the search results. Now, the page’s size is auto calculated according to the window’s size.

Another addition is the new “Add to list” menu that appears in each profile, facilitating the addition or removal of users to/from a list. Now it is possible to see in which lists each account of our community is included. On the Stats section, we have added a new more visible "Export PDF" button.

It is a pleasure for us to develop and improve SocialBro with your help!
